I plan on getting a large detailed multi color tattoo on my back. Full size from shoulder to my waste. I am currently around 230 lbs and I’m thinking about losing the weight. will weight loss effect the tattoo on my back if I lose 30 plus pounds???

No, it won’t. The skin will shrink along with the tattoo.

Yes of course! The more weight you gain or loose it will effect your tattoo especially on your back.

probably not
I have a tattoo on my back. I gained and lost 60 lbs two times (pregnancies), and my tattoo looks the same.

of course it will? when your skin relaxes it is much like a painting on a slack canvas. unless you were to bulk up at the gym i would advise a weight loss before the tatoo.

it depend if your like super skinny with a tattoo and became really big yes the tattoo will fade and stretch..but in your case probably not

it may get smaller, but it won’t look bad

it might
i know if you gain weight it stretches but im not sure about losing weight
i would ask your tatoo artist

Yes it will, when you gain weight you skin stretches, which is why some get stretch marks etc… Also way when someone looses a large amount of weight they sometimes have excess skin surgically removed, as it may not "snap" back

I have a tattoo on my lower belly. I’ve had two children, I’ve put on 22kg then lost it again and my tattoo has always remained its shape. Sure it stretched a little when I was pregnant but it went back to normal now that I’ve lost the weight!

it would distort the tattoo, as long as u don’t have any loose skin on that ares where u loss the weight
marshmallowstuf on August 7, 2010 at 9:49 am
why not wait until you lose the wait and make it a reward for yourself, that way you’ll feel motivated to lose the wait even more =]

yes.. if the skin stretches, so will the tattoo. if the skin shrinks or gets tighter.. so will the tattoo
ashie on August 7, 2010 at 9:49 am
It all depends on what type of skin you have.. a good way to find out is if you have strech marks, then chances are your tattoo will become distorted.
I would wait until you’ve lost the weight
