A lot of people would like to take shortcuts when it comes to losing those extra pounds. Of course we all want to lose weight fast but the thing is, shedding so many pounds in such a very short time could be very dangerous. You body is not designed to adjust automatically to sudden changes in its composition. Often time, if you shed off weight too fast, your body could not stand the drastic changes and you end up getting really sick.

According to experts, if you lose a lot of weight rapidly, you could injure your heart and other organs too. The worst past of these drastic weight loss programs is that you eventually gain back whatever fats you lose during your extreme weight loss programs. Experts warn that a drastic weight loss program is not sustainable.

Losing weight overnight is not a good idea so forget all about your fad diets and starving yourself to near death because that will not really do you any good at all. If you really want to lose weight, stick to the safe methods of doing things. Being safe may mean that you will work harder and take more time losing weight but the thing is, you do not get sick, you learn a lot about discipline and you build some muscles along the way.

Is it possible to safely lose weight fast?

According to experts, there are ways to lose weight in a matter of weeks. Note that we are not talking of days here but weeks. Since your body will need to adjust to the changes, you will need to accommodate the needs of your body.

Now, to facilitate fast weight loss, you must strictly adhere to a combination of good diet, proper exercise and a lot of discipline. If you have a weight loss trainer, work out a weight loss plan with your training and stick to it. Ask your weight loss-training instructor to design an exercise program that is easy but effective.

When it comes to your diet, make sure that you get a high fiber diet. According to experts, a high fiber diet will make you feel full longer than any other types of diet. Since you do not feel hunger easily, your intake of food will be easier to regulate. Furthermore, a high fiber diet will benefit your digestive system immensely. High soluble fibers found in fruits and vegetables will not only help you shed off weight, it will also help you avoid some types of diseases.

Aside from the high fiber diet, you should start watching the amount of calories that you eat each meal. Always remember that your exercise program will not really be effective if you take in more calories than you can burn. Besides, if you take in a lot of calories, you will need to exercise longer to burn everything up and avoid gaining extra pounds.

When you are on your diet and exercise program, do not forget to take a lot of water. According to studies, chronically dehydrated people tend to accumulate water in some unflattering places of the body! If you drink enough water and keep you body hydrated, you body will be able to function more efficiently. If your body is functioning efficiently, you will be able to lose weight fast.

Being overweight can incur serious health consequences. This is a fact that most people knew about. Many of these include risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, gallstones, and some forms of cancer. Weight loss can help you reduce some of these risks.

Here are some general pointers to keep in mind when confronted with weight loss products. Many weight loss programs that claim that you can lose weight with ease are false. To lose weight, it is either to reduce the number of calories you eat or to increase the number of calories you burn through exercise. It has been agreed by many experts to recommend a combination of both.

Many low calorie diets are not without risk. They should be pursued only under medical supervision. A very low calorie diets can deprive you of important nutrients and can be potentially dangerous.

Many fad diets effects are only temporary and you may gain back your weight just as quickly. Sudden and drastic changes in your eating patterns are difficult to maintain over time. Many of these crash diets often send a dieter into a cycle of quick weight loss and then followed by a return to weight gain once normal diet habits resume. They may experience more difficulties to reduce weight when attempting the next dieting plan.

To lose weight permanently over a long term and safely requires you to adjust your daily eating and exercising habits. Many health professionals would recommend a goal of losing about a pound a week. A total reduction of 3,500 calories is required to lose a pound of fat. A reduction of 500 calories per day can help achieve this goal. A way to lower your calorie intake is to put into practice healthy eating habits.

Avoid the use of phony devices and gadgets. They can range from those that are simply ineffective to those that are truly dangerous to your health. Save your money. Some of the deceitful gadgets that have been marketed to dieters over the years.

These include electrical muscle stimulators that are used in physical therapy treatment. The FDA has taken a number of them off the market because they were promoted to lose weight and body toning. If used improperly, muscle stimulators can be dangerous and cause electrical shocks and burns.

Avoid appetite suppressing eyeglasses. These are common eyeglasses with colored lenses that claim to project an image to the retina that suppress the desire to eat. There is no such evidence that these work.

Avoid magic weight loss earrings and devices custom fitted to the person’s ear that purport to stimulate acupuncture points controlling hunger have not been proven effective.

Losing weight is simple but it is not easy as some claim to be. Stick to the basics of exercising and eating moderately and you will be on the way to losing weight effectively.

The problem with many people is that they are on the lookout only for fast and easy ways to shed weight. This accounts for the low success rate overweight people have in their long-term weight-loss efforts. They find it hard to accept that, unfortunately – in this era of scientific and medical breakthroughs – an effortless weight-loss technique does not exist.

So if you are one of those overweight people, what should you do? Here are some thoughts on the matter:

1. Bear in mind that all weight-loss attempts require effort on your part. The only proven method for weight loss is to cut down on the calories you consume, or increase the calories you do manage to burn off via exercise. Most experts believe you should do both.

2. Try not to pursue the low-calorie route if you lack medical supervision because of the medical dangers involved.

3. Fad diets are out of the question since fast and drastic changes in eating patterns are hard to maintain. Crash diets also push dieters into the cycle of rapid weight loss, piling back of weight after going back to normal eating patterns, and having an even harder time losing weight when they try another diet.

4. You need to commit for the long-term to daily adjustments in your eating and exercise habits if you intend to lose and keep off weight safely. Many experts believe you can lose around a pound per week by decreasing your calorie intake by 500 calories per day. Learn to practice healthy eating habits.

You should try to avoid products such as pills and capsules that can allegedly remove fat from your body. There are pills that can control your appetite but not without side effects.

The following products have been proven by the US Food and Drug Administration to be worthless:

1. Diet patches that are placed on the skin.
2. Fat blockers that allege to physically absorb fat while mechanically hindering a person from absorbing fat
3. Magnet pills that purport to remove fat out of your system
4. The Oriental plant root Glucomannan
5. Certain bulk producers or fillers, including fiber-based products, which can absorb liquid then increase in size in your stomach
6. The blue-green algae species Spirulina

Various kinds of bogus weight-loss devices and gadgets are being touted everywhere. At the very least, they are worthless and exist simply for you to throw your money away on them. Others are downright dangerous to use.

Some of these are:

1. Electrical muscle stimulators that can produce electrical shock and burns when applied the wrong way.

2. Appetite-suppressing eyeglasses that absolutely do not work.

3. Magic weight-loss earrings and other gadgets that are attached to your ear (which allegedly stimulate acupuncture points related to hunger) and do not have any effect

How does one know if the product is bogus? You should be wary of claims about weight-loss products that have words and phrases such as: easy, effortless, guaranteed, miraculous, magical, breakthrough, new discovery, mysterious, exotic, secret, exclusive, and ancient. Chances are, you are being led on a wild goose chase.

Hopefully, the data provided here will help you avoid wasting your time, energy and money on weight-loss products that just do not work. There is definitely no substitute for a sensible eating and exercise program.

When considering a new weight loss program or making drastic changes to your diet, it is recommended that you see your doctor. This is a great time to get in and get a physical if you haven’t had one in a while. If you have recently had a physical it is still recommended that you consult your doctor and let him know about your diet plans. By letting your doctor know your plans, you can discuss any health concerns and get approval before starting. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry.

When considering a new diet there are a few questions you should ask yourself:

* Why do you want to lose weight?
* Are you truly committed to the process of losing weight?
* Do you have a support system, maybe a friend or weight loss group that will be able to help you along the way?
* Will you be able to continue even if you make a few mistakes?

Make sure you answer these questions honestly, because it will only help you in the long run. Please remember that you are only human and humans make mistakes. You have to allow for a few slip ups without wanting to just give up and stop.

Before you start your new diet plan you need to prepare yourself both emotionally and mentally for the changes you are about to undertake. You are going to have some ups and downs along the way and you have to be prepared so you can overcome them. There might be weeks you don’t lose as much as you hoped or don’t lose anything at all, but you can’t let it get you down or all of your hard work will be lost.

Four Areas to Change

To effectively lose weight you will need to change four essential aspects of your life:

* What you eat
* How you eat
* Your feelings about food
* Your activity level

I’m not going to sugarcoat it for you. Losing weight is hard work but maintaining your weight loss is even harder. The good news is you can do it and you will succeed if you have your heart set on it.

Positive Effects

Your weight effects more than just your appearance, it also effects:

* Your overall quality of life
* Self-esteem
* Health risks
* More

There are many positive changes you will experience when you start losing weight and feeling good.

Be realistic in your expectations. Losing 30lbs in a month is not likely to happen, but you can lose ten pounds in a month. Setting smaller, more attainable goals will help you stay focused on your goals.

Choosing the Right Plan

Don’t pick a plan that consists of foods you dislike because you will only be setting yourself up to fail. Choose your plan carefully as you have many different options. You don’t have to follow any plan completely. Adapt it to your liking so it works for you. If you pick a plan you hate, with foods you dislike how will you maintain your weight after you achieve your weight goal? For this reason you have to make sensible changes to your everyday eating habits so it’s long term.

If you are an emotional eater you need to learn how to divert your emotions to something besides eating. Go for a walk, write in your journal, or call a friend or family member you can talk to. It will happen but you can overcome it.

Health Risks

There is a real health risk associated with being overweight that can’t be ignored:

* Diabetes
* High blood pressure
* Heart disease
* High cholesterol

All of these risks are life threatening. It’s far better to practice healthy eating now to prevent health issues.

Genetics, ethnicity, your environment and more can effect your weight loss efforts. There are some things you will not be able to change. Also keep in mind that what works for one person may not work for you for these very same reasons.

If you are looking to lose weight for the long term, it will be hard work. There is no quick fix or magic pill. If a person or product is taunting you with only needing to take a pill, this will only work in the short run. Sure the pill will help you lose weight fast, but will it keep it off? Chances are the weight will come back, so for long-term results you have to put in the time and work. Just remember the old adage “if it seems too good to be true, than most likely it is.”
